I use my metate to grind cacao to make chocolate, but you can use it to grind anything. I talk about where to find a metate, what to look out for, how do you know if a metate is good quality or not, how to prepare your metate before using it (how to season it), how to grind cacao on it, where to find the cacao, what to do with that cacao, and finally how to clean and store your metate. Learning how to season and use a metate generally means that your mother, grandmother, or aunt has passed down this information to you. But some of you do not have Latin American grandmothers, so this is why I am here. In this course, I show you everything that I learned from all the women in my family and a few mentors in Oaxaca, Mexico. This is an amazing tool that is used throughout Latin America to make tortillas, salsas, or chocolate. It is a wonderful way to make your own chocolate for drinking or for baking. It will impress all of your friends and it is a really great activity to do with kids and teenagers. You will be the life of the party wherever you take your metate. I know because I take it everywhere.
