While technologies such as the Industrial Internet of Things, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Big Data Analytics, and AI are the primary drivers of Industry 4.0, it is Maintenance 4.0 that brings them to life. The literature reveals that implementing I4.0 technologies offers numerous advantages. However, it is important to note that realizing these potential maintenance benefits requires more than just overcoming the technological challenges associated with Industry 4.0 integration. It is equally crucial to address other challenges, particularly sustainability-related ones, including social, economic, and environmental challenges which must be considered to ensure sustainable manufacturing, an area significantly influenced by maintenance.
