I wrote this book to share my love of creating wine without grapes.
My grandpa was a grand storyteller. When I was little, he would tell me about the Meade of Poetry. This fascinating tale opened the door to my later interest in creating mead and wine without using grapes. The process, while tedious, is actually more straightforward than you might think. It is not the simplest thing in the world, but my book will attempt to show you how to make wine in your own home kitchen. You do not have to start a vineyard to create outstanding wines!
The first part of my book will discuss a brief history of winemaking so that you can know the origins of this great craft. We will address some common myths of wine. I will show you the difference between a wine that is made with grapes, wine made without using grapes, wild fermentation, as well as traditional fermentation. I will thoroughly explain the standard winemaking supplies and equipment that you'll use for nearly every single recipe in the book. These tools range from a simple soup kettle to how to use your recipe notes.
Next, I will teach you about the winemaking process. It all starts with keeping things clean and sterilized. I will walk you through the process of how to prepare your tools and ingredients before you even dive into a recipe. I will also discuss the pros and cons of various pre-made winemaking kits you can easily purchase online.
In the heart of the book, we'll examine over 20 unique wine recipes.
The first recipe section will be wine made with berries. These can be sweet or dry wines. Next, I will show you how to create a wine with other fruit such as apples, pears, oranges, pineapples, plums, quince, and rhubarb. The third recipe section will show you how to create wines using vegetables, herbs, nuts, tomatoes, and dandelions. Finally, last but not least, I will teach you how to craft a signature mead, a wine made with honey.
In the conclusion, I will address the pitfalls or mistakes that beginning winemakers should avoid. I will also hit the highlights of the information found in the book.
